The Chapter's History
In February 1973, an organizational meeting was held with the purpose of forming a Maryland Chapter, and in March 1973, the first “official” meeting of the Baltimore Chapter of EGA was held in Towson, Maryland. This chapter was the 29th Chapter of EGA. The chapter offered many educational opportunities for members such as classes with local and national teachers, lectures, workshops, exhibits, field trips and tours.
On 3/12/1973, our chapter became a member of EGA. At that time we were called Embroiderers Guild of America Baltimore Chapter. In 1980, our chapter name was changed to Embroiderer’s Guild of America Constellation Chapter - Baltimore, MD, named after the Frigate Constellation. And, we adopted the Frigate Constellation as our chapter logo.
Constellation Chapter welcomes beginners through advanced stitchers, and encourages everyone to become involved. In addition to the numerous educational opportunities, Constellation Chapter provides creativity, inspiration, mentoring, socialization, sharing of knowledge, sharing of supplies, community outreach, and an opportunity to create lifelong friendships.
Membership in The Embroiderers’ Guild of America, Inc. and in the Constellation Chapter is open to all stitchers without regard to sex, color, religion, or national origin. The organization was founded to foster high standards of excellence in the practice of the art of embroidery, and to develop an active program of education and study to meet the needs of its members.
